July 2008 Minutes
Eximious Flying Club
Executive Board/General
Meeting Minutes
Como’s Restaurant
July 7, 2008
President, Howard Riley, called the meeting to order at approximately 6:43 PM. Introductions were made. Sue Lawlis, Jim’s wife, was the only family member that attended. Everyone in attendance took advantage of the venue and ordered food and beverages which were quite good, especially the pizza.
Secretary, Larry Haggart, offered to read the minutes, but the reading was waived and the minutes were accepted as submitted.
Treasurer, John Walch, made his report (see separate attachment). Due to the fuel cost increase, it was agreed that, effective July 15, the flying time rate will increase from $85/hour to $89/hour. The fuel budget has been increased to $5.15/gallon after averaging $4.50 in May and $5.15 in June, with no relief in sight.
Member at Large, Jim Lawlis, reported that three members have allowed their debt to accumulate so they are considered to be “at risk,” but still not to the cut-off threshold of $1,000. He will be contacting these members to ascertain their intentions. All other members are current and in good standing with the Club. There are some potential new members that have asked for information, but no new members to report as yet.
In reference to the Vice President’s report, it was reported that Juan Jefferies may be interested in serving as an officer. Howard Rileywill follow up to see if he is willing to replace Larry Haggart as Secretary, since Larry has volunteered to replace Jason Steinhebel as VP. Rich Hohm agreed to handle any lockouts from the scheduling system for those members who have not attended this year’s Safety Seminar (either the initial session or the makeup session), with appropriate notifications. Those members are Hathaway, Solomon, and Temrowski. Thanks Rich.
Art Miller, Operations Officer, reported that his good friend and a friend of Eximious Flying Club, Bill Roffelson, passed away recently after fighting a losing battle with cancer. Bill was the former owner/operator of Phoenix Aviation at DET, and was scheduled to do the annual inspection on N8167F, but just got to be too sick to handle it. Our condolences will be conveyed to Bill’s family by Art.
Before his death, Bill arranged to sell or give Eximious some good equipment that the Club can use. Art Miller will arrange to pick up the equipment and see that payment is made to Bill’s wife.
Air Service Enterprises in Howell is doing the annual for 67F. It is due on Monday, July 14. During the annual, some nicks and scrapes on the cowling will be repaired and the cowling will be repainted. The base cost for the annual is $850 (based on a rate of $75/hour). 90B’s annual is due in August. Please make sure that Art is made aware of any additional squawks on 90B, so they can be addressed during the annual inspection. He is already aware of concerns about the compass and variances in air speed.
Art is also interested in turning over the Operations Officer’s duties to another member if someone else is interested. Please contact Art if you would like to talk about it.
Our Web Master, Rich Hohm, reported that our new website will be launched officially right away. He invites everyone to visit the site and share reactions. Thanks for putting it together Rich. Good job.
Since there was no other new business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned early at about 7:27PM, after agreement was reached that the next meeting will also be held at Como’s on August 4th.
Respectively submitted,
Larry Haggart
Secretary
